About Togatta Kokeshi

Togatta Kokeshi () originate from the Togatta Onsen hot spring resort in Miyagi Prefecture, Tohoku one of Japan’s eleven traditional Kokeshi producing regions. Togatta Kokeshi are celebrated for their distinctive, elegant form a slender, graceful body with a large, beautifully painted head, adorned with delicate chrysanthemum and plum blossom motifs in rich, warm colours. Each piece is turned on a lathe and hand-painted by a trained craftsman, making every Kokeshi a unique and irreplaceable work of art.
