Alyssa Breids Ko series was influenced by the process of creating karakami, decorative paper crafted in the Japanese textile district of Nishijin. The traditional craft of karakami involves first dyeing paper and then applying patterns with woodblocks. Influenced by this idea of subtle textural differences informs the Ko series bound together by a common idea but varying in size and location throughout the canvas. The Ko series is meant to be seen together as a series yet stand on their own as individual works.
